The commissioning of the ultra-modern 200 Million Naira ($700,000) multi-purpose hall of the College of The Immaculate Conception (CIC), Enugu took place on Friday April 28, 2017.
The project which was solely financed by the college’s alumni association, was commissioned by Enugu
StateGovernorship, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi with the Catholic Archbishop of Enugu, Most Rev Callistus Valentine Onaga celebrating a high mass that preceded the ceremony.
Talking about how the project got to be, a member of the alumni body, Benson Ejindu (Eze Omeogo) said that it all started in August 2013 in Chicago, USA during the annual convention of the college.
“The plan was to build an ultra-modern multi-purpose building, featuring the latest technologies on offer, a first of its kind in the eastern region. The ground breaking ceremony took place in April 2014, and this year, to the glory of God, we have realized the project. It was solely financed by the alumni association. Kudos must go to individuals who donated generously. We had 514 donors and just under 44 months, we met our target, even in the face of the free falling Naira.” Interestingly, the alumni are embarking on another massive project almost immediately…..
The governor in his address, welcomed in a special way, all the members of the Association who travelled from all over the world to be part of the ceremony and commended them for their commitment to ensuring that the flag of the famous institution continues to fly high.
He noted that the goals of the CIC Alumni Association as well as its efforts to develop facilities in the school, were completely in tandem with his administration’s unequivocal commitment to raise the bar in educational development especially through the provision and upgrading of necessary infrastructure and facilities as well as the engagement of qualified personnel for the schools.
