Aku a community in Igbo-Etiti on Friday attacked Fulani Cattle rearers' settling in their community.
According to information reaching us, it was gathered that relationship between the two group had been tense for a long time, the villagers clam that their crops are been destructed by cows.it was also
learnt that herdsmen, who are usually armed, have been harassing the villagers.
17-year-old Wareri, a herdsman sustained three gunshot wounds during the attack. While three of his brothers identified as Musa, Baba, and Muhammed.
Alhaji Sodu, the Father of the victims also a herdsman said that seven of his cow have been slaughtered by the youth and about 100 cows scattered in different directions during the attack and are currently missing.
The Chairman of the security committee set up by the Enugu State Government to address herdsmen menace in the state, Brigadier General Fred Eze (rtd.) have however visited the injured herdsman at a hospital in 9th Mile where he is receiving treatment.
Sodu have appealed to security agencies to rescue his sons. He Said;
"I am too old now to go into the forest in search of my three sons, I am appealing to security agencies to rescue my sons unharmed.
"The youths have slaughtered seven of my cows. over 100".
Speaking during the visit, Fred Eze appealed to youths in various part of the state, who are furious over the activities of herdsmen to avoid reprisal attacks. He assured the Family that security was beefed up in the affected area to forestall further violence. he added that the incident is being investigated.
"We want to allay fears generated by this incident, the army has moved to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
"The Garrison Commander, O.T Akinjobi, has dispatched a search party for the missing persons.
He also said that "Another combined team of Police and the army have equally moved into the area to avert any breakdown of public peace".
He then added that the incident is being investigated.
He Said "This incident is already under investigation and the authorities will unravel the remote causes of the incident and ensure that appropriate actions are taken."
This Fulani Herdsmen and Communities Issue is really becoming something else over here in Enugu
